Getting Started with Snapshots

Snapshots are point-in-time copies of your instances, capturing the complete state including disk data, configuration, and system state. Use snapshots for backups, testing, or creating templates for future deployments.

Legacy Tier - CANADA-1

Snapshot Support: Available

Create unlimited snapshots

Point-in-time instance backups

Restore to new instances

Use as deployment templates

Full disk state preservation

Advanced Tier Regions

Snapshot Support: Not Available

FINLAND-1, FINLAND-2, FINLAND-3, ICELAND-1

Advanced tier regions do not currently support snapshot functionality. Contact support for backup options in advanced tier regions.

Account Requirements

Before creating snapshots, ensure your account meets these requirements:

Profile Completion

Required Account Information

Complete your profile at barrack.ai/account

Required fields:

Full name

Billing address

Postal code

Country

Minimum Balance

Account Credit Requirements

Maintain minimum balance:

US Dollar: $1.00 minimum

Euro: €1.00 minimum

Indian Rupee: ₹100.00 minimum

Add credits before creating snapshots

Instance Requirements

Instance Status

Active Instances Only

Instance must be in ACTIVE state

Powered-off or stopped instances cannot be snapshotted

Check instance status before creating snapshot

Only running instances appear in VM selection list

Supported Regions

Legacy Tier Only

Supported: CANADA-1

Not Supported: Advanced tier regions (Finland, Iceland)

Snapshots are only available for instances in legacy tier regions

Creating Your First Snapshot

Navigate to Snapshots

Go to the Snapshots page from your dashboard navigation

Click Create Snapshot

Click the Create Snapshot button in the top right

Select Instance

Choose the instance to snapshot from the dropdown list

Available instances show:

Instance name

GPU type

Region

Only ACTIVE instances in CANADA-1 region appear in the list

Enter Snapshot Name

Provide a unique, descriptive name for your snapshot

Length: 2-30 characters

Must be unique across your snapshots

Add Description (Optional)

Click Show advanced options to add a description

Maximum 500 characters

Helps identify snapshot purpose

Visible in snapshot details

Configure Options (Optional)

Advanced Options:

Create as Image

Enable to use snapshot as deployment template

Allows creating multiple instances from this snapshot

Recommended for repeatable deployments

Create Snapshot

Click Create Snapshot to start the process

What Happens:

Snapshot creation begins immediately

Billing starts upon successful creation

Status changes from "creating" to "available"

Original instance remains running and unaffected
